ジェームズ・ジャクソンの兄リチャードは、長い間ニュージーランドに住んでいるが、間もなく10年ぶりに帰ってくる。
Mrs. J：リチャードおじさんが今週の後半帰ってくるわよ。
Rob：ぼくがおじさんのことで覚えていることは、ヘビースモーカーだったってことだけだよ。
Mrs. J：そう。おばあちゃんの家に泊まる予定だからおばあちゃんは家中に「禁煙」のサインを貼ろうと考えているのよ。
Rob：グリーン先生は喜ぶだろうね。タバコが嫌いだからね。
Mrs. J：とにかく、10年ぶりだから、土曜日に家族全員集合よ。
Rob：グリーンさん一家は、うちの他の家族に会うのを喜ぶだろうね。
【Speak 1】

おばあさんはわくわくして昨夜は眠れなかった。3時にお茶の用意ができた。おばあさんが思っていたよりずいぶん遅れてリチャードがやっと到着する。
Grandma：ああ、リッチ、また会えて本当にうれしいわ！
Richard：やっぱり故郷はいいねえ。
Grandma：3時からお茶の支度ができていたのよ。どうしたの？
Richard：関税での列が長くて1時間以上もかかったんだ。
Grandma：私は毎週セインズベリーで同じ目にあっているわ。
Richard：それに地下鉄がすごく混んでいて降りられなくて、一つ先の駅まで行かなくちゃならなかったんだ。さあ、お茶にしようよ。
