Book 1のホワイト家が夏休みでニューヨークに帰っている。(念のため、Mr. WhiteはMrs. Greenの兄であるので、LauraとKevinはMaryとTomのいとこである。Book 1、p.197参照。)
ホワイト家は夏休みで神戸からニューヨークに帰っている。グリーン先生はロンドンからホワイト家に電話をし、ホワイト夫人と話している。ホワイト夫人が会議はどうだったかを尋ねた。
Dr. G : 会議は最高だったよ。
Mrs. W: 観光する時間はあったの?
Dr. G : 週末だけね。もうあと一週間いられたら、もっといろいろ見られるんだろうけど。
Mrs. W: 私なら、もう一週間いるわ。
Dr. G : そうできたらいいんだけどね。ねえ、明日の4時にケネディー空港へ車で迎えに来られるかい?
Mrs. W: いいわよ。子供たちも連れて行くわ。そうしたら子供たちみんなで一緒にバスで帰ってこられるから。
